What I am going to write today is not only a day's thought, but I have been thinking about it for a long time. I'm not a working woman, but yes, apart from being a housewife, I am the mother of a six-year-old daughter as well. I took care of my daughter myself. I felt closely what various difficulties a mother has to face while taking care of kids. I do not mean to say that the father does not fulfill his/her responsibility, Even he also does everything which is needed for the children, but still somewhere the role of the mother is slightly different from the father.
From where the mother role starts?
From the moment a mother conceives and carries a precious life within her for nine months, her journey begins. Giving birth marks merely the initial step in a mother's intricate and demanding responsibility of nurturing her family throughout her lifetime. At home, a mother assumes a pivotal role, encompassing profound care, unconditional love, valuable guidance, and countless other essential contributions. The development and growth of a child often hinges upon the profound influence exerted by their parents and caretakers, especially the pivotal role of a mother.
The well-being and progress of children greatly depend on the presence of a stable and nurturing connection with significant individuals in their lives, most notably their parents. Extensive research has consistently highlighted early childhood as a critical phase, during which children absorb a wealth of knowledge from their environment and the individuals who populate it.
During a child's formative years, a precious opportunity for learning unfolds, shaping their future growth and development. As the primary figure in a child's life during this crucial period, a mother's influence becomes indispensable. In the multifaceted journey of a child's developmental progress encompassing social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and independent growth, a mother assumes the pivotal role of an all-encompassing educator, guiding and nurturing her child in every facet of their journey.
It’s a personal choice you must make after asking yourself a few questions. Having a baby is a life-changing experience. The post-maternity leave period serves as an opportune moment for reflecting on one's priorities. Contemplating whether to persist in one's employment or make the decision to prioritize the care of the baby presents a challenging predicament faced by many new mothers. Navigating this dilemma and arriving at a suitable resolution is a complex process that demands careful consideration, as the well-being of both the mother and the baby are at stake. There are so many things to consider. Are you financially stable? Will quitting affect your career growth? Does your health permit you ?
There is no right or wrong answer to the question whether you should quit your job after your maternity leave. This decision depends on very personal circumstances, and no two women are in the same situation. If you are also battling in taking decisions, keeping the following points in mind will help you to some extent.
The primary consideration revolves around the individual's health and well-being, as well as the readiness of the baby—both physically and emotionally—to adapt to brief periods without the mother's presence. If these aspects pose no concerns, resuming work should be a viable option. Making an informed decision in this regard necessitates careful assessment, taking into account the specific circumstances of one's own health, the baby's development, and the support systems available.
For women hailing from middle-class backgrounds, a significant aspect to ponder is the financial flexibility to take a substantial hiatus from work. Assessing whether the option of temporarily stepping away from the workforce is financially viable necessitates open discussions with one's partner about the current financial situation. Additionally, it is essential to align perspectives on the prospect of raising a baby with the assistance of family members or hired help. Engaging in such conversations can provide valuable insights to help guide one's decision-making process and determine the subsequent course of action.
Consider whether you harbor ambitious aspirations for your career or if prioritizing motherhood takes precedence in your life. If you aspire to advance in your professional journey and ascend the corporate ladder, taking an extended break might not align with your long-term objectives. Evaluating the significance you attribute to each aspect can assist in making a decision that resonates with your personal values and aspirations, ensuring that you maintain a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in the path you choose to pursue. But if you want to focus on your little angel, it’s fine to quit. Whatever you decide, there should be no guilt-tripping involved. As mentioned earlier, There are no right or wrong decisions. Do what your heart tells you.
There is a possibility of mid path. In case you think that you would like to dedicate your life for couple of years to raising your child and do not want any interference from your work, you should do that. However, you should keep in touch with your work by spending a minimal amount of time in study which is related to your career. This is why you will not be completely out of your career. Now a days, online platforms helps in continuing your study which comes with convenience and with a very reasonable price. A happy mother contributes to a happier baby. Recognizing the connection between a mother's well-being and her child's happiness emphasizes the importance of prioritizing self-care and personal fulfillment in parenting decisions.
Mother role |
It is essential to avoid assuming that a woman who chooses to stay at home is any less ambitious. It is crucial to recognize that she is transitioning from one significant aspect of her life to undertake a role that demands unwavering dedication around the clock. Managing the upbringing of children and the daily operations of a household is an incredibly demanding endeavor. Such women rarely find time for themselves, even for a moment of relaxation over a cup of tea. From laundry and packing lunches to grocery shopping and numerous other responsibilities, they tirelessly execute these tasks, operating like a well-coordinated machine, all for the well-being of their families.
On the other hand, when a woman chooses to work she is doing it fully realizing the enormity of responsibilities in front of her apart from housework.
Both categories of women are fully occupied with their respective work, and it is high time for society to abandon judgmental attitudes and instead acknowledge the underlying reasons behind their choices. Rather than offering unwarranted criticism, it is important to cultivate an environment of appreciation and understanding. If providing support is not feasible, it is crucial to grant these women the peace they deserve as they wholeheartedly fulfill their duties in their chosen roles.
